That could have been worse. There are several ways to work a wrestling match (or angle) and more than one of them can be very wrong. That would include a style that is wreckless and/or dangerous, which rarely does anyone any good and can cause an injury. It was the style that was on display in an angle at a major event recently, and now it seems that it had quite the negative effect on someone.
At AEW’s Fyter Fest on Saturday night, Shawn Spears hit Cody with an unprotected chair shot to the head. Cody was busted open badly from the back of his head and had to be helped out of the arena. AEW has since posted an update on Cody, saying that he received twelve staples to close the wound but did not suffer a concussion. There is no word on if he will be cleared for his upcoming match at Fight For The Fallen in July.

Cody had a heck of a match before the attack. Check out the hype video for his match with Darby Allin:
Opinion: That’s quite the relief but it’s also something that never should have happened. I see no need to ever have someone get hit in the head like that, no matter what kind of an angle that it is. That was something that was much more accepted before we knew what kind of effects it can cause. Cody is lucky that he wasn’t hurt worse, but it’s nothing I need to ever see again given the risk of short or long term injury.
