Talk about history being made. There are a lot of stories to tell in wrestling and some of them are a lot more interesting than others. One of the hardest things to do in wrestling is come up with a way to make fans care about what is going on and relate to them, which is what WWE was trying to do with a recent title change. Now the new champions are getting to celebrate.
During last weekend’s WrestleMania Backlash pay per view, Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio won the SmackDown Tag Team Titles, becoming the first father and son team to hold Tag Team Titles in WWE. As a result, the two of them appeared on ESPN’s SportsNation this week, talking about how much it means to be the new champions. The two also looked at various family photos.
This was pretty awesome. Check out the clip, plus the match where they won the titles:
Opinion: I know it is a pretty standard, run of the mill interview with the photos as a nice touch, but there is something cool about seeing wrestlers on a mainstream sports show like this. Above all else, the Mysterios winning the titles is the kind of thing that you can point at as a pretty feel good moment. The title reign itself might not mean much, but at least they got something special out of it in the first place.
What did you think of the segment? How long will the champions hold the titles? Let us know in the comments below.
