That’s sweet. Back in December, the wrestling world was shaken up in a pretty horrible way as AEW star Brodie Lee suddenly passed away due to issues with his lungs. Lee’s passing came out of nowhere and left everyone pausing for a few days. AEW’s tribute to him was one of the best things any wrestling promotion has put together in a very long time. That does not mean the tributes are over though and we saw another one this weekend.
Wrestling is an international sport and there have been incredibly talented wrestlers from all over the world. While the majority of the wrestlers you see on American television are from America, you will see several other countries represented as well. One of the more prominently features in the wrestling world is Canada, and one of the bigger Canadian stars of all time paid a tribute to Lee over a special bond.
This is just great. Check out Edge’s big appearance (and notice the shirt):
Edge appeared on Saturday’s edition of Hockey Night In Canada, opening and introducing the show. The video included clips of Edge’s in-ring career and gave a quick biography of Edge’s road to the WWE Hall of Fame. Edge appeared on screen at the end of the video, showing him wearing a Jon Huber (Lee’s real name) shirt. Huber was a known hockey fan, especially of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who were featured in the game Edge introduced.
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that will always make me smile as Edge did not draw extra attention to the shirt but it was something fans would notice in a heartbeat. Lee was a huge hockey fan so having him get such a tribute was a great moment. It’s great to see this from another promotion as well and I hope it made Lee’s family smile a bit as they are not even two months removed from such a horrible situation.
