VIDEO: It’s Just What He Does: Ric Flair Cuts Fired Up Promo Before Big NBA Game

It’s kind of what Flair does. There are different aspects to being a wrestler but one of the most important is the ability to speak. Without being able to make fans care about you, a wrestler’s in-ring abilities are not going to get them very far. The ability to cut a good, fired up promo can get a wrestler a long way and that talent does not go away once they retire from the ring.

There are very few legends in wrestling on the level of Ric Flair. Over an in-ring career that ran nearly forty years, Flair gained a reputation as being one of the best performers of all time, both in the ring and on the microphone. Almost no one could cut a promo like Flair, whose cadence and style have been mimicked for decades. Sometimes you need the real thing though and that was the case on Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, Flair appeared before the Los Angeles Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans basketball game and cut a promo to fire up the crowd. Flair praised the Lakers and LeBron James in particular before giving several WOOs. This is not the first time that he has been used in such a role, as various other teams have brought him in to do the same thing. The Lakers went on to win the game 118-109.

Opinion: This is where Flair shines as he knows how to fire up a crowd like almost no other. That is the kind of thing that is going to keep him around forever because it is going to work in a lot of places. Flair has become a legend because of what he did in wrestling but he has also become a bit of a pop culture icon due to the entire Nature Boy character. That is rather impressive and not something most wrestlers get to do.
