Welcome back! The biggest WWE story over the last week has been the return of John Cena. After over a year away from the company, Cena made his return at Money In The Bank to confront Roman Reigns, likely setting up a Summerslam match for Reigns’ Universal Title. That is the kind of thing WWE is going to take seriously, and that means they are going to put in the practice.
Cena wrestled in a post show dark match following this week’s episode of SmackDown. After the show, Cena teamed with Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio to face the Usos and Roman Reigns. There was no contact between Reigns and Cena during the match. Cena’s most recent televised match was the Firefly Fun House match at WrestleMania 36, and his most recent traditional televised match took place in January 2019.
Cena looked good in his return. Check out the match, plus some more of Cena’s return:
Opinion: This is a smart move as Cena is going to be pretty rusty. Letting him get in the ring to get his timing back and feel what it is like in front of a live crowd is a good idea. You can only get so far in the gym and while Cena is incredibly talented, he has not had a regular match in about two and a half years. This is the kind of thing that he needs to do and hopefully it makes Summerslam that much better.
