He said….something. Earlier this week, a bit of a surprising story came out that Joey Ryan had turned down a contract with AEW. This came out of left field as Ryan seems to be the perfect fit for AEW in every sense of the word. At the same time though, WWE has been sending out feelers to Ryan about coming in to NXT. He needed to make an announcement and that is exactly what has been done.
At Thursday night’s Bar Wrestling event, Ryan announced that he would be sticking with independent wrestling rather than moving to either of the two bigger companies. The promotion, which is owned by Ryan, will also continue to run events going forward. Ryan also wrestled at the show, defeating Priscilla Kelly in the main event of the evening.
His announcement was the real main event though. Check out Ryan saying he wasn’t going anywhere:
Opinion: As surprised as I was that Ryan didn’t go to AEW, this is the most logical move for him. Ryan’s main shtick isn’t going to survive on a major show and I think he understands that. There is no reason for him to throw away what he has built up, especially if he’s making more money there and is happy with what he does. Maybe he’ll wind up in a major company someday, but if he can keep doing this stuff, good for him.
Are you surprised Ryan isn’t going to a major company? Will he ever make the jump? Let us know in the comments below.
