The future awaits. One of the best things that WWE has going today is Roman Reigns as the seemingly unstoppable Universal Champion. After winning the title back in August, Reigns has smashed his way through the next two months and the question has become who in the world is supposed to challenge him for the title. While we don’t know who that will be just yet, we might have a better idea of who it won’t be.
Earlier this month, WWE presented its annual Draft, which reshaped the way the Monday Night Raw and SmackDown rosters were set up. This is one of the biggest events of the year, as it changes both shows for the next several months. It also gives fans an idea of what they could expect, and that might be even more accurate now that some names are not going to be back at the moment.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has no intention of bringing back John Cena or Goldberg for a major match with Reigns anytime in the near future. This comes after Goldberg appeared in the virtual crowd for Reigns’ title defense against Braun Strowman on SmackDown and after Goldberg vs. Reigns was pulled from WrestleMania 36 over Coronavirus concerns. The top names expected to challenge Reigns in the future are Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens and Rey Mysterio. Reigns is currently scheduled to face Randy Orton in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series.
You won’t be seeing this anytime soon. Check out what WWE won’t be offering:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to make of this, as Reigns is going to need a special opponent to give him any kind of a serious challenge. I can’t imagine any of the regular SmackDown wrestlers giving him a run for his money, but at the same time, is anyone going to buy Cena or Goldberg as a possible champion at this point either? This could make things interesting on SmackDown, but they made Jey Uso a compelling challenger so it is certainly not out of their depth.
Who should challenge Reigns next? How long will he hold the title? Let us know in the comments below.
