I guess it’s better than giving them the boot. There is something inherently interesting about wrestling tournament. With so many wrestlers around, it can be interesting to put them into a field and see who can be the last one standing. WWE certainly loves their tournaments and the one currently being held now has a more important prize for the winners.
NXT is currently running its annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. The tag team tournament features teams from NXT vying for a different prize each year, though this year is a bit different as the field is a mixture of teams from both NXT and NXT UK. That opens the doors for something a little bit different, and now we know what else is on the line.
During Saturday’s Worlds Collide event, the two teams in the tournament finals, the Broserweights (Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne) and the Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) appeared for an announcement of the tournament’s prize. The winning team will receive a shot at the NXT Tag Team Titles at Takeover: Portland on February 16. The finals will take place on this coming Wednesday’s edition of NXT.

Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise but it’s the kind of prize that works out well for the winners. The Undisputed Era have held the titles for so long now that they need some fresh challengers. This is as good of a way as anything else so maybe they have something interesting with the winners of the tournament. It’s not like they have anyone else to face at the moment.
