That’s a big problem. Titles are often the most important part of any wrestling promotion as they can guide all kinds of stories in several directions. Wrestlers fighting over a championship is as basic of a story as you can get in wrestling and titles changing hands can make a huge difference. Now we might be ready to see a title change, but it could be due to a specific issue.

Last week at AEW Grand Slam, Adam Cole suffered an ankle injury while attempting to interfere in his partner Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s match against Samoa Joe. This week on Dynamite, Cole said that he had broken his ankle in three places and torn ligaments. He requires surgery and said that he was ready to vacate the Ring Of Honor Tag Team Titles. However, Friedman said no, and volunteered to defend the titles on his own. The team’s next defense is scheduled for this Sunday at WrestleDream against the Righteous.

Opinion: An injury that severe is going to keep Cole out of action for a good while and now the question is what happens to the titles. If Friedman is willing to defend them on his own, it is only going to last for so long and now we get to see who will take them away. It’s a big hit to one of the better stories in AEW, but there is only so much that can be done when someone is hurt that badly.
