I’d call that a big one. Wrestling is one of the most international sports in the world as there are so many different kinds all over the planet. While those styles can exist on their own, they can also come together and give us some incredible moments when different styles can mesh together very well. Sometimes those fresh mergers can work together around the world and that was the case this week.
Tournaments are one of the easiest things in the world for a wrestling company to present. You can pick the matches you want to set them up in a row with a structure that anyone can easily jump into at a moment’s notice. Another possible option is to throw in a surprise, as the brackets might not be presented in their full form to start the tournament itself. That’s what NXT had in mind this week.
This week on NXT, Alex Shelley was announced as Kushida’s mystery partner in this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Shelley and Kushida teamed together in New Japan Pro Wrestling as the Time Splitters, holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles twice in their careers. This marks Shelley’s NXT debut after several years in both Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor.
The team is one of the better ones. Check out the team’s whole idea:
Opinion: Works for me. Kushida has been my favorite New Japan wrestler for a long time now and it is cool to see him down in NXT. Things have not gone so well for him so far but maybe this is something that can give him a boost. If nothing else it is nice to see one of the best tag teams in recent years back together again and maybe they can break through in the tag division, which could use a major boost.
