Well that changed in a hurry. One of the biggest “what if’s” of the year had been Randy Orton’s WWE contract status. Orton’s deal was expected to expire next year and he had been teasing jumping to AEW. That wound up not being the case as Orton signed a new contract with WWE, ending the speculation. With that out of the way, Orton has now changed his tune towards AEW in a rather entertaining Twitter exchange with AEW President Tony Khan.
The situation started when CM Punk talked about how he was trying to catch up on five years of wrestling to get ready for Backstage. Punk said that no one is safe, prompting Khan to reply, saying that it sounds like a plane full of wrestlers in Saudi Arabia. Orton responded to Khan, including an article about Khan’s father being investigated for corruption.
Khan responded by saying the article was over a year old and had no truth to it while also saying that Orton only tweeted him when he wanted leverage. Orton most recent response referred to Khan as Jacksonville Dixie and said he he wanted to talk business, he would call Khan’s father.
It IS weird trying to catch up on 5+ years of rasslin’, I’m doing what I can. There’s bright spots, mostly women from what I can tell. There’s BAD too. I’m gonna talk about it, and no one is safe. Join us. @ReneeYoungWWE @WWEonFOX @BookerT5x @RealPaigeWWE @VinceMcMahon @TonyKhan

What’s that whole thing about glass houses and stones?https://t.co/z99BVuCMfP

I thought you only tagged me in your posts when you were grasping for leverage. That article’s over a year old + is about baseless claims made about my dad years ago. That’s the best you can do, nothing. Meanwhile in the time since that was written, you used the N word on twitch.

Jacksonville Dixie:
Why else would I tag you? If I wanted to talk business, I’d call your father.

Orton knows a thing or two about business. Check out one of his contract signings:
Opinion: That Jacksonville Dixie line was great and the kind of insult that cuts hard in wrestling circles. Orton sticking around WWE was not the biggest shock but some of these insults were rather amusing. It helps when you are a career WWE guy and someone whose status is secure as Orton can say things like this and get away with it, especially now that he has the big extension. Khan seems like a good sport though and that is something you have to be in something like this.
Whose lines were funnier? Who might jump to AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
