What could have been. There are certain hypothetical dream matches that always get fans talking. You know most of these I’m sure: Andre the Giant vs. Undertaker, Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin, and about any combination of various other legends that you might care to name. Those matches are all the more exciting if someone finally manages to make it possible and one of them almost took place.

One of the big stories of the week was Sting making his AEW debut. Sting has not been seen for a good while now but he had been on good footing with WWE for a long time now. However, he had not been wrestling in that time and has not been in the ring since September 2015. That was not cool with some fans but it seemed to be cool with Vince McMahon who shot down a proposed dream match.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sting had wanted to face the Undertaker in a cinematic match but Vince McMahon always turned it down. McMahon did not see the match as something that fans would want to see and never pursued it. There is no word on how long Sting requested the match or if he is going to wrestle a match of any kind now that he is in AEW.

WWE has thought about it before. Check out a preview they put together:

Opinion: I can see why fans would want to get this match, but at the same time, I’m not sure how well it would go. The match might have worked twenty years ago, but you can only go so far with age creeping up on them. A cinematic match would have been the only way to go between the two of them, but McMahon turning the match down is not the biggest surprise.

How would an Undertaker vs. Sting cinema tic match go? When should it have taken place? Let us know in the comments below.
