The more things change. There are all kinds of people who have to combine to make a wrestling show work. With so many names going around any given edition of Monday Night Raw, everything has to work well together to make everything work as well as possible. Sometimes something needs to be changed for one reason or another though, and that is what seems to be happening.
One of the most important parts of any wrestling show is the commentary. The broadcast team’s job is to go out there and explain things to the fans. Their main goal is to take the fans wherever the company wants them to go. They tell the fans what they are supposed to know and point them in the right direction. Now though, we might need someone else to handle the guiding.
According to PWInsider.com, Vic Joseph will be replaced by Tom Phillips as the main play by play announcer for Monday Night Raw. Joseph was moved into the position in October when the commentary teams were switched around. Phillips returned to the main roster’s commentary team this weekend at the Royal Rumble. There is no word on why Joseph was replaced, though he is still with WWE. As shown on this week’s Monday Night Raw, Phillips will work with Jerry Lawler, who is still in his normal position, and Byron Saxton, who is joining the team.
You might need to get to know Phillips. Here are some of his moments:
Why did The New Day undress Tom Phillips?: SmackDown Fallout, May, 19, 2016
Opinion: This isn’t the most important change but sometimes they have to do something like this for the sake of shaking things up a bit. That being said, I’m not sure if switching out Phillips and Joseph is going to make that big of a difference as they’re even enough that it might not mean all that much. WWE certainly sees something in the change though, and maybe it can make things better.
