That’s another way to go for Summerslam. This year’s WrestleMania saw a changing of the guard in the main event as Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar to become the new WWE Champion. It was a huge accomplishment for McIntyre, who had seemed ready to move up to the next level for a long time now. His reign has gone well enough, but he might have a big roadblock in his way.
One of the things working against McIntyre, and almost any World Champion of recent years, is Lesnar’s shadow. No matter who the champion is or what they have done, there is always the chance that Lesnar is going to show up and take the title for months at a time. That doesn’t help things very much as it makes it seem like a champion is just renting the title until Lesnar wants it back. We might be seeing such a thing again.
According to Tom Colohue on the Dropkick DiSKussion podcast, the current plan is to have Lesnar challenge McIntyre for the WWE Title at Summerslam, currently scheduled for August 23. This comes after rumors of Randy Orton being McIntyre’s challenger at the show. It is currently unknown where the show will take place as the original location of Boston is not allowing fans to attend sporting events.
They’ve done it before. Check out the full podcast and what a match between these two looks like:
Opinion: Please, let this be wrong. How many times do we need to do the Lesnar title shot stuff? Last year it was Seth Rollins beating Lesnar at WrestleMania and Summerslam. Do we need to do the exact same thing with McIntyre this year? Not only has this been done, but it has been done more than once now. Why would I want to see the same idea that we have seen for years now?
