Ronda Rousey’s First Raw Women’s Title Defense Announced

Just in case the first time wasn’t dominant enough. Nine days ago at Summerslam, Ronda Rousey destroyed Alexa Bliss in short order to become the Raw Women’s Champion. The match was the kind of dominance that a lot of fans had been expecting to see from Rousey and she won the title with little to no offense from Bliss. Now that she’s won the title, Rousey needs to defend the thing.

As announced this week on Monday Night Raw, Rousey will defend the Raw Women’s Title against Bliss in a rematch at the upcoming Hell In A Cell pay per view on September 16. Bliss announced the rematch in a promo before a match between Natalya and Alicia Fox, with Bliss and Rousey both serving as seconds. This will be Rousey’s first title defense and only her fifth televised match on the main roster.

Bliss never did know when to stop talking.

Opinion: It’s kind of nice to have a women’s match set up that isn’t for Evolution for a change. WWE has gone a little nuts promoting that show so far when there is other stuff to get to first. I’m not sure how they’re going to do Rousey vs. Bliss II, as there wasn’t exactly much to build from coming out of the first match. There’s a reason to book it as a squash, but since we just did that I’m not sure where you go next.
