He already isn’t all that popular in the first place. There are very few wrestlers as divisive as King Corbin. He has gone from a midcarder all the way up to the main event scene in a short amount of time and it did not go well with a lot of the fan base. Corbin was not exactly popular, to the point where WWE turned his unpopularity into a storyline, where Monday Night Raw’s ratings and viewership woes were blamed on Corbin’s storyline time as General Manager. However, it turns out that backstage was not all that different than the storyline.
Earlier this week, Roman Reigns was a guest on the After The Bell podcast where he discussed his feud with Corbin. Reigns talked about how Corbin was not seen in a positive light when he first arrived in the company. Members of the locker room told Corbin that he would have to get in the ring or face getting fired. As a result, Corbin stepped up his game and became a main eventer, with Reigns praising his size and abilities. The two of them will both be on the SmackDown Survivor Series team later this month.
Reigns and Corbin have come a long way. Check out some of their detailed history:
Opinion: I’ve never been huge on Corbin but he really has gotten something out of the King gimmick. One of the biggest criticisms of him has been that he didn’t stand out whatsoever, which is why the improvement was such a big surprise. Corbin has gone from annoying to a perfectly serviceable performer who can be moved up and down whenever necessary. Just don’t go overboard with it like they did before and it should be fine all around.
