I wonder what Brock Lesnar will think of this. Mixed martial arts and professional wrestling go hand in hand to a certain extent. While wrestling is predetermined and mixed martial arts is a traditional sport, the showmanship, athleticism and certain aspects of competition are certainly similar. Wrestlers have jumped from one sport to the other multiple times now and this time, it’s a fairly big name.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, Mexican promotion AAA announced that former two time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez has signed with the company and will be making his in-ring debut at TripleMania XXVII on August 3. No opponent has been named yet. At the moment, Velasquez is still signed to the UFC, where he last fought on February 17 of this year. Velasquez worked out at the WWE Performance Center back in July 2018.

He’s dipped his toe in before. Check out Velasquez at the Performance Center last year:

Opinion: Well that’s certainly a surprise and I’m a bit intrigued. Velasquez lost decisively in his last UFC fight and maybe this is something he can do in the future. He’s 36 years old and has a long history of injuries. Wrestling has been a different path for athletes from several other sports over the years and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Velasquez heading down that same road.

Will Velasquez be a success in the ring? Which other mixed martial artists would you like to see make the jump? Let us know in the comments below.
