For the first title time ever. Last Sunday at Elimination Chamber, Bayley and Sasha Banks won the Women’s Tag Team Titles, becoming the inaugural champions to make history. The following night on Monday Night Raw, they made a rather interesting announcement: the titles will be defended on every show going forward. That sounds big, and it might mean something on the biggest show of the year.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bayley and Banks could defend the Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 35 in a four way match against a team from Monday Night Raw, a team from SmackDown Live and a team from NXT. At the moment, the champions do not have a first title defense scheduled, though Nia Jax and Tamina seem likely to challenge them.
They don’t have much so take what you can get. Check out Banks and Bayley’s first comments as champions:
Opinion: That’s a pretty cool concept and a good way to get some people on the big show. The Women’s Tag Team Titles can’t survive on a single show so mixing them up like this is a great idea. Change things up and let some teams get exposure they wouldn’t get otherwise. Imagine the Sky Pirates from NXT getting a chance to shine at WrestleMania. It works in NXT and it would work even better on the big stage.
