For the sake of the content. There is a lot of WWE television. Like, a crazy amount when you think about it. Between the regular television shows alone, you’re looking at about ten hours a week, plus whatever pay per view material you might find. Every now and then that’s not enough though and they’ll throw in a bonus, which is going to be the case later this month.
As announced on WWE.com, a new WWE Network special will air on Saturday July 17 at 9pm, featuring a pair of matches. The special, called Smackville, will air live from Nashville, Tennessee and include Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura defending against Finn Balor and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defending the title against Samoa Joe and Dolph Ziggler. The event will also include a performance by Elias.

Opinion: This sounds very similar to the Shield’s Last Chapter special from earlier this year and that wound up going well enough. Barring a big surprise, nothing is going to happen here but it’s cool to have a quick, likely hour long show with a few title matches. I’m not expecting anything significant from the show but where would we be without more WWE content to watch?
