Beaten to the draw. It is no secret that WWE has been in trouble when it comes to their television audiences. Fans just are not watching as much as they used to and WWE is trying to figure out a few ways to get fans to stick around. One of these plans is to have some older stars come back for some nostalgia, and while that is going to be happening on Raw Reunion, it isn’t the most original idea.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plans for the first episode of SmackDown Live on October 4 were to hold a SmackDown reunion with various stars from the past appearing. However, now that the idea of the Raw Reunion has been approved, the SmackDown version is not likely to take place. The Raw Reunion was USA’s idea and not something WWE decided on.

In case you needed some SmackDown Live history. Check out the really cool intro to SmackDown 1000:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised at this one as it’s an idea that is proven to work. At the same time though, do you really want to start the new SmackDown Live era with a bunch of people you won’t be seeing again? You won’t be able to find that kind of star power again so starting at the top of the pile might not be the best idea in the world. Raw Reunion can be a great idea though and that’s what matters most at the moment.
