There’s a reason for the surprise. The schedule at WrestleMania 35 was a little confusing. With so many matches to cover on the card, there were a lot of different combinations that the matches could be put into to make the show work. The combination that was used on Sunday had one major surprise, with Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar opening the show. As you might have guessed, that wasn’t the original plan for the show. So what was?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Universal Title match between lesnar and Rollins was supposed to go on next to last, right before the Winner Take All Women’s Title match. Instead, Paul Heyman came to the ring and said that if Lesnar wasn’t closing the show, he could open it so they could leave in a hurry. There is no word on if the match opening the show had anything to do with the match running very short at less than three minutes.

This was a surprise. Check out a good chunk of Sunday’s title match:

Opinion: I was certainly surprised at this, but at the same time they were smart to get the show started that way. It made it to the fans that things were going to be moving this year and gave you the feeling that you needed to pay attention to everything. The Universal Title changing hands in the first match, which didn’t even last three minutes, was shocking and a good way to get things going for the evening.
