Hopefully this makes your day a bit nicer. Mick Foley is one of the most famous and now most vocal retired wrestlers in the world. You won’t go very long without Foley weighing in on something, be it on his Facebook page or in an interview of some sort. In this case, it’s a little bit of both.

Foley has penned a recent essay for SI.com where he talks about the origins of the Cactus Jack moniker and what the character means to him. The majority of the piece is a story about one of the many death matches he took part in for the IWA prormotion in Japan. One night Tracy Smothers begged him not to do anything crazy for such a small crowd. Foley simply said he couldn’t do that, which while absurd, was the most Cactus Jack-like thing he’d ever said. It’s part of the character’s mindset: he’ll do anything that needs to be done, no matter what happened to him.

You can read the full piece here.

Opinion: If there has ever been a better storyteller in wrestling than Foley, I’ve yet to see him. There’s something about his ability to connect with people seemingly with ease and over the years, he’s developed one heck of a following. Cactus Jack is just one of his many personae and it’s very interesting to see how his mind works to get him there.
