Maybe one day. The rise of AEW has changed the way top level wrestling works in America. WWE had dominated the industry for so long that it was almost impossible to imagine another major company making any kind of headway. AEW has managed to pull it off in the short term though, and that could open some very interesting doors in the near and far future.
One major difference in AEW is the emphasis on tag team wrestling. While it is not something that gets any significant focus in WWE, tag team wrestling has been treated as an important deal in AEW since the company started. AEW has the deepest tag team division in wrestling today and one of its bigger names is talking about a potential dream match with a team from outside.
AEW’s Matt Hardy has posted a video of him meeting the Viking Raiders at an independent event in Oklahoma in 2016. Matt commented on the match, saying the Raiders are a tremendous team. Ivar replied, saying he and Erik are still awaiting their rematch against Matt and his brother Jeff Hardy. Matt responded as well, saying “one day” and that he anxiously awaits the meeting. There is no word on when the Raiders’ or Jeff’s WWE contracts expire or if they have any interest in going to AEW.
Call it a long term preview. Check out the Hardys and the Raiders:
Opinion: This is something that could be interesting if the teams were given the chance, though I’m not sure how likely that is. The teams probably would have in-ring chemistry and it would be close to a dream match, but this is the kind of match that isn’t likely to be taking place for a very long time to come. It’s certainly fun to think about though, which is the point of such a discussion.
