They aren’t done yet. There are so many wrestling promotions in the world that you can’t keep track of all of them. That is a good thing for wrestling fans as they are going to be able to see all kinds of content at any given time. However, not every promotion is going to be able to survive, which can leave a lot of things unfinished. One promotion might be getting a final farewell even after they are gone.
Back in 2014, a new promotion called Lucha Underground debuted, offering a very different way of presenting a wrestling show. The promotion ran in seasons and acted more like a television show rather than a wrestling show. It was a rather over the top promotion and often came off like a comic book come to live. The series was unofficially canceled after four seasons and has been gone for over two years. Now though, it might be getting a very unique reprieve.
Last month, Major League Wrestling’ Fusion included a segment where Salina de la Renta traveled to Mexico and resurrected Mil Muertes, who had been a star in Lucha Underground. During this week’s show, de la Renta mentioned receiving a phone call from Boyle Heights, which was the location of the Lucha Underground temple. According to PWInsider.com, this is part of a story that will be played out over the course of the year. It also ties into a line from the Pulp Fusion series where de la Renta mentioned owing dangerous people a lot of money.
Now this could be interesting. Check out de la Renta’s announcement and a look back at Lucha Underground:
Opinion: I had a great time with Lucha Underground and it could be rather cool seeing it referenced in a way like this. The show didn’t have the biggest audience or anything like that but throwing in something like this could give MLW a bit of a boost. Just putting something different out there can be a good idea, especially if it’s more of a feature rather than the big focal point.
