Lights, camera, something else. Roddy Piper had an interesting take on wrestlers acting. “When I was wrestling, people said I was acting. When I was acting, people said I was just a wrestler.” Wrestlers have been cast in acting roles for a long time now and a bunch of them will be in a new upcoming comedy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kurt Angle and Tommy Dreamer will star in “In the Ring”. Here’s the synopsis:

Angle will star as Sledgehammer Sullivan, the leader of a group of rag-tag pro wrestlers “who take on a multinational corporation and a rival, “extreme” federation headed by Matt Manson (Dreamer) to gain a network-TV contract in a winner-takes-all pay-per-view.”

Some other names involved with the movie are Mickie James, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, John Morrison, Ken Anderson, Jay Lethal, Joey Ryan, Candice LeRae, Chavo Guerrero, Kevin Kelly, Nick “Magnus” Aldis, Chad “Gunner” Lail, Dalton Castle and The Briscoe Brothers.

Sure, why not? These movies are often cheaply made and can be entertaining for what they are. There was another movie starring Angle called “Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies” released in 2014 which worked just fine. I’m also glad that they got a bunch of wrestlers to act in the movie as there’s no need to hire actors who have no idea how wrestling works.

Do you like movies with wrestlers in acting roles? Which wrestler in the case do you think would make the best actor?
