FOR AMERICA! AND BULGARIA! The big story of this week’s “Smackdown Live” was the return of John Cena. Given how patriotic Cena tends to be and how this show was on the Fourth of July, it wasn’t shocking when his return promo turned into a very American focused speeds. Someone didn’t quite think much of it though.
During his speech, Rusev was interrupted by the returning Rusev, who talked about how great his native Bulgaria was. This set up a challenge for a flag match later that night, but Rusev said they would do it on his time. Later in the night, it was announced that the flag match will take place at “Battleground 2017”.
John Cena's return is interrupted by Rusev: SmackDown LIVE, July 4, 2017
Opinion: Honestly, what else were you expecting from a Cena return on the Fourth of July? Cena vs. Rusev is a fine way to get Cena back into the fold and having him stand up for America is about as easy a way to have people cheer for him in the book. Rusev won’t be hurt by losing to Cena and the flag stipulation hasn’t been done in a while.
Did you like Cena’s return? Should he be feuding with Rusev? Let us know in the comments below.
