It would have been different. There have been a lot of titles throughout WWE’s history and some of them have been more prominent than others. The more important the wrestlers fighting over a title are, the bigger a deal that title is going to be. Sometimes this is easier than others, especially if a title is for a specific division instead of for all comers. WWE has had some specialized titles over the years, and they almost tried something pretty unique with one of them.

Back in 2016, WWE brought back the Cruiserweight Title after nearly a decade of inactivity. Things had changed a good bit since that time, but there were still only so many things that could be done with the title. That is what hurt the division so badly in its original incarnation, as there were not enough wrestlers of note to go after the title. WWE had tried something at a house show though, and it could have been interesting had it made air.

According to an interview with Fightful Select, former Knockouts Champion Taylor Wilde was considered to win the Cruiserweight Title in 2007. Wilde wrestled a series of house show matches in a mask and body suit which left both her identity and gender a secret. Dean Malenko and Jamie Noble both pitched the idea of her winning the Cruiserweight Title from Gregory Helms, though the idea never went beyond a pitch. Helms was contacted about the story and confirmed that it was true. Wilde wrestled for Impact Wrestling from 2008 – 2010 and last wrestled in 2011.

You might not remember Wilde. Check out who almost won the Cruiserweight Title:

Opinion: It certainly would have been different and that would have been the best thing that could have happened to the division back then. There was a long stretch where nothing interesting happened to the title and that was a big reason why it did not last. Things are a bit better today, but there are still some issues that need to be resolved if the title is ever going to become something important.
