That’s a relief. You never know what is going to happen to wrestlers’ health, just as is the case with anyone in the world. People get sick, but the question becomes how well they can recover. Sometimes whatever is wrong with them is the end of the line but in other cases it can be fixed. Earlier this week we got some very depressing news but it turns out that a key detail wasn’t true.
Ric Flair recently announced that Harley Race had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. As it turns out though, according to PWInsider.com, while it’s true that Race has lung cancer, the cancer is NOT terminal and Race is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of his doctors. Race, age 75, is still active running his World League Wrestling promotion and wrestling academy.
There’s a reason he’s a legend. Check out this classic NWA World Title defense:
Opinion: That’s quite the relief. Race is one of the true legends of wrestling and it would be horrible to see something like this happen to him. While it’s still horrible that Race has such a disease, it’s great to hear that he has a chance to fight back. He’s one of the best ever and it’s going to be a huge blow to wrestling when he’s gone from the sport. Hopefully he gets better and is back to what he was before he got sick.
