That’s what makes the wrestling go around. Titles and champions are some of the most important things in wrestling. At the end of the day, no matter what you have going on, titles are what drive the stories of the wrestling world more than anything else. They’re the ultimate goal in wrestling and several of them were on the line Sunday night at Extreme Rules 2019.
There were ten titles decided at Extreme Rules in nine matches, including one match with two titles on the line. During the show, there were four title changes, with:
- Shinsuke Nakamura defeating Finn Balor to become the new Intercontinental Champion
- New Day defeating Rowan and Daniel Bryan and Heavy Machinery for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles
- AJ Styles defeating Ricochet for the United States Title
- Brock Lesnar defeating Seth Rollins by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase for the Universal Title
Rollins had previously successfully defended his title in a mixed tag. Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak, Raw Tag Team Champions the Revival, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Raw Women’s Champion Lynch all retained their titles.
Some of the new champions want respect. Check out some of their reactions:
Opinion: It was a pretty wild night for the champions, with multiple titles changing hands in one show. That makes for some interesting changes and things are going to be worth seeing going forward, especially with Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live under new leadership. These changes had to happen to set things forward and that is exactly what we got.
