Johnny Hometown? It’s been a long time since the WWE had any serious competition in wrestling. There are only a few other wrestling companies of note in the country (if not the world) since the demise of WCW and that has been almost twenty years. It has reached the point where WWE has been able to create their own brands, including NXT. That shouldn’t be hard to comprehend, but apparently it’s more complicated than it seems.

NXT Champion Johnny Gargano was on hand at Progressive Field Wednesday to throw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Indians game. However, according to Bodyslam.net, the graphic that appeared on the screen said that Gargano was a WCW Triple Crown Champion instead of either the NXT Champion or an NXT Triple Crown Champion. To put this in perspective, Gargano’s professional wrestling debut came in 2005, about four years after WCW went out of business.

This is what WCW was missing out on. Check out Gargano against his greatest rival:

Opinion: As a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan, I can’t say I’m even remotely surprised at this kind of a mistake. This is one of those things where you have to wonder how it could have gone wrong. In theory the team was given a notice of how to put the graphic together and I can’t imagine it said anything about WCW. I know it’s a thrill for Gargano, but come on already. WCW? Really?

How long is Gargano going to hold the title? Who will take it from him? Let us know in the comments below.
