What would the trophy look like? Back in 1986, the WWF introduced the Slammy Awards, honoring the best, or occasionally most infamous, stars in the company. The awards would last a few years before taking a hiatus until the mid 1990s. They would return over ten years later and run from 2008 – 2015 before vanishing again. Now a spiritual successor has returned and we know the winners.
Over the last few years, WWE has expanded its reach into a variety of outlets, including online media. The company knows how to produce content everywhere, including a weekly YouTube show called the Bump. The show is similar to other morning talk shows and features a variety of WWE guests. This time around, they are having their own awards, with the big day having arrived.
Earlier this month, the Bumpy Awards were announced on an episode of the weekly morning show The Bump. The awards, with the winners being revealed this week, honored the best of WWE in the first six months of 2020. This is the first time that the awards have ever been presented and it is not clear if they will be back for the second half of the years. Here are the categories, nominees and winners (in bold). Opinion: This is the kind of thing that I could watch every year and get a smile out of it every time. It’s a simple idea and something that you could run a story off of for months, but what makes it work is wondering who wins. I know a lot of them are obvious, but just having the drama of waiting makes it work. Sure there are a lot of them, but the show is fun and that’s what is should be.
