He earned it. One of the biggest stories taking place in recent weeks on AEW Dynamite has been the open challenge issued by Cody for a shot at the TNT Title. The idea is rather simple: have someone, either from inside or outside AEW come in and get a shot at the title. This has allowed for some great drama as we find out who is coming out to get the shot, and some hidden gems have been discovered. One of them has done well enough to get a job.

Earlier this month, Eddie Kingston was announced as the next challenger for Cody’s title. Before the match, Kingston cut an emotional promo about how hard he had worked to get here and how he had sacrificed everything for the chance. Kingston went on to come rather close to winning the title, with his performance receiving some praise. That praise has now been rewarded.

AEW has announced that Kingston has been signed to a contract with the company. This comes after a Twitter campaign asking AEW to “#SignEddieKingston”, to which AEW responded “#EddieKingstonIsSigned”. Kingston is now the second name to have been signed to the company after taking part in the open challenge, following Ricky Starks. There is no word on who the next challenger will be.

Kingston certainly made an impact. Check out his match with Cody:

Opinion: Good for him and well deserved. Kingston showcased himself rather well in his match and it was the kind of performance that deserved something in reward. AEW has done a good job of picking up wrestlers who might not have had the best chances elsewhere. Outside of a short run in Impact Wrestling, Kingston has not wrestled in many high profile situations so hopefully he gets a better chance here.

What did you think of Kingston’s time on Dynamite? What should he do next? Let us know in the comments below.
