Former NXT Performer on Original Plans for Sanity

That’s crazy talk. NXT isn’t a place with a high number of stables but they do have Sanity, a group of four rather crazy wrestlers. The team is led by Eric Young and debuted late last year and has had up and down success, mainly participating in a long feud with Tye Dillinger and friends. It turns out that this incarnation is the second version of the team.

Former NXT talent Marcus Louis recently appeared on the “Pancakes and Powerslams” podcast to discuss his time in NXT. Louis says that the idea for Sanity was pitched well over a year ago with himself, Sami Calihan (Solomon Crowe in NXT) and Sawyer Fulton (later part of Sanity) as a Mad Max style team. The idea fell through for various reasons but it does seem to have been an idea. Here are his comments with transcription courtesy of DDT Daily:

“Initially, SAniTy was supposed to be Sami Callihan, myself, and Sawyer Fulton. We were the three people who were supposed to be SAniTy at first. I was told about this idea in late 2015. It was September 2015, I think, I was told by Triple H himself. He came and said, ‘I have this great idea for you guys. We’re gonna bring you in as a trio of sort of like punk-looking people, sort of like Mad Max.’ And then it was supposed to be Crowe, myself, and Fulton. But he was like long-term, and it was a long shot already. So Callahan left NXT, and then there was a different talk. They were talking about bringing in somebody new to be the leader of this faction.”

Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise in the world as Sanity kind of came out of nowhere. It really is a gimmick that could work with almost anyone who had the right look so this isn’t that far fetched. I’d have liked to see Calihan get something like this as he never really fit as the Little Monster character.
