It’s invasion time. Aside from WWE, no wrestling company in the world comes close to the dominance of New Japan Professional Wrestling. They’re the undisputed kings of Japan and one of the more popular acts in America among hardcore wrestling fans. As it turns out, they’re planning to expand to North America over the next few months and that means a special event.

Tonight at the “War of the Worlds 2017” event, New Japan announced the creation of the New Japan United States Championship, which will be crowned over a two night tournament. This tournament will be held at the July 1 and 2 events in Long Beach, California in New Japan’s solo American debut.

Opinion: I have no idea if New Japan will be able to get a foothold in the United States. No other wrestling promotion has really been able to challenge WWE in the better part of twenty years but none of them have the kind of structure that New Japan has. It should be interesting to see how things go and a new title is a good way to kick things off, assuming they actually do something with the title instead of just having it be a prop.

Who do you think wins the title? How well do you think New Japan will do in America? Let us know in the comments below.
