His Time: SmackDown Star Wins First Title At NXT Deadline

And NEW. Title changes can be a big deal for a wrestler’s career, especially if it is one of their first in a promotion. It shows that the company sees something in them and are willing to give them a chance going forward. If the fans happen to care about the title change, things are even better. That was the case again this weekend as an upset title change too place.

Over the weekend at NXT Deadline, Dragon Lee defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the NXT North American Title. Lee was replacing an injured Wes Lee, who had been scheduled for the match before announcing that he was forced to undergo back surgery. Dragon had Rey Mysterio, Dominik’s father, in his corner for the match. This is Dragon’s first championship in WWE, though he is currently a member of the SmackDown roster.

This is a big one. Check out the match and what came after for Lee:

Opinion: This is something that needed to happen as Dragon has been presented as one of the most important names for WWE’s future. As a result, he needs to actually win something at some point so that was covered here. At the same time, Dominik has done quite a bit as champion and it could be interesting to see what happens for him going forward without the title.
