It didn’t take that long. It feels a lot longer but Dynamite has only aired eight episodes, with the eighth coming earlier this week. As impressive as it (and the rest of AEW) has been, they really do not have any kind of a history built up. That will change over time, but there are still a lot of firsts to take place for them. These things will come in time, but everything has to happen for the first time. That was the case this Wednesday night and not in a good way.
According to Showbuzz Daily, this week’s edition of NXT defeated Dynamite in overall viewership with NXT’s 916,000 viewers edging out Dynamite’s 893,000. This is the first time that NXT has defeated Dynamite in the eight weeks that the two shows have been on the air against each other. However, AEW won the 18-49 demographic with a .39 against NXT’s .30. That rating is considered more important than overall viewership. This week’s episode of NXT featured a variety of main roster talents, including Becky Lynch, Ricochet and Seth Rollins among others.
It took a lot to get them there. Check out some of the NXT highlights:
Opinion: Despite feeling like a breakthrough, I don’t think this one means very much. As mentioned, Dynamite still won the ratings battle and NXT needed a bunch of special guests to make this work. That being said, more people watched NXT than Dynamite and that was the goal for what WWE did. It means a little something for them and that is where things need to go for them. Now, as was the case when Dynamite’s initial numbers were strong: do it again, but better.
