I’d call that an honor. There are very few names in wrestling anywhere near the level of Steve Austin. Unless your name is The Rock or Hulk Hogan, you are not in Austin’s league and there isn’t much of a way around that. Austin is still occasionally around WWE and wrestling in general, meaning he still keeps track of it at a fairly close pace. That means his opinion still matters, and he has given quite the honor to someone.

Austin was recently a guest on the CBS Sports State of Combat podcast where he was asked about his Mount Rushmore of WWE, including who he felt was the top wrestler in the company over the last decade. Austin mentioned a few names, including John Cena, who was the face of the company for a good part of the last ten years. However, Austin had another name in mind for the spot.

Cena and Austin have appeared together before. Check out one of their few times in the same ring:

WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin returns to

The top name on Austin’s list was Brock Lesnar, due to the amount of interest that Austin had every time Lesnar walked to the ring. This would be whether Lesnar was walking to the wrestling ring or the UFC octagon, which Lesnar did compete in during his time as part of the WWE. Lesnar has not been with WWE for the entire decade, having returned to the company in April 2012 and appearing sporadically ever since. He is currently the WWE Champion and scheduled to defend against Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series.

They have their own history. Check out a brawl that could have headlined WrestleMania under better circumstances:

Opinion: That is an answer that is going to get some debate going, as it’s true that Lesnar has been a top star with some great success, but at the same time he has not been around all that long. That is a big mark against him and serves as a fair criticism. I can see where Austin is coming from though as he is right about Lesnar’s aura. You know you are in for the big fight when Lesnar is around and that does a lot of good for any show he is on. He may not be your cup of tea, but there is something about him that no one else has.
