Are you really surprised? There is no secret that WWE is not exactly in the best place in the world with ratings and viewership at the moment. While SmackDown has been holding fairly steady, Monday Night Raw has been falling lower and lower over the last few months (if not years). We keep thinking that the bottom has been reached and we are wrong every single time.
This week’s Monday Night Raw was in a bad situation. Not only was the show taped, but it was up against a strong Monday Night Football game, as well as being a holiday edition (the second such show in four days). It also comes in December, which is a known dead period in WWE. Couple that with WWE Champion Brock Lesnar being absent again and the numbers were almost destined to be bad. But how bad were they?
According to Showbuzz Daily, the December 23 edition of Monday Night Raw drew the lowest non-holiday viewership in the nearly twenty seven year history of the show. The three hours averaged 1.835 million viewers, down from last week’s 2.053 million. None of the three hours broke two million viewers and each hour’s viewership decreased throughout the night.
There were still some good things. Check out some of the show’s highlights:
Opinion: I know there are a lot of circumstances going into these numbers but at the same time, this is a horrible result no matter how you look at it. Now that being said, next week’s show isn’t on a holiday, is the big close out to the decade, and won’t have Monday Night Football competing against them. If they don’t get their numbers up there though, I’m not sure what they’re supposed to do.
