And so, it ends. One of the biggest sagas in AEW’s relatively short history has been that of CM Punk. Following an emotional return in Chicago, which marked his first appearance for a major wrestling promotion in seven years, Punk has been involved in one backstage controversy after another. That was the case again last week at All In, and now we have a resolution to the situation.

AEW has issued a statement announcing that Punk has been fired with cause, effective immediately. This means that Punk is said to be to blame for his firing and will not be back. This comes after a backstage incident involving Punk and Jack Perry took place at All In, which resulted in a fight between the two. Punk has yet to comment on the situation and it is not clear if he will sign anywhere else.

Punk did have his moments. Check out some of his time in AEW:
Opinion: I can get that something had to be done about the Punk situation, but my goodness that is one heck of a surprise. Punk was one of the biggest stars that AEW had, but at some point all of the backstage drama built up and became too much to overcome. I’m not sure if firing him was the right course, but it’s going to be very interesting to see how Chicago handles this over the next two nights.
