This one’s for the Boys. Ring of Honor’s biggest show of 2017 has come and gone with “Final Battle 2017” taking place earlier tonight. The card was rather stacked for a Ring of Honor show but the main event was a bit suspect. Dalton Castle, a rather flamboyant and arguably comedy character challenged Cody for the ROH World Title. The match was built on the idea of Castle being in over his head and not being ready for this spot. So how did he do?
Tonight at “Final Battle 2017”, Castle defeated Cody to become the new Ring of Honor World Champion. Castle pinned Cody clean after a Bang-a-Rang, ending Cody’s reign at 176 days. This is Castle’s second title reign in Ring of Honor after he and the Boys held the Six Man Tag Team Titles.
Here’s the pre-match hype video.
Final Battle - Dalton Castle vs Cody
Opinion: I’m surprised by this, albeit in a good way. Castle winning the title is a good move but I never thought they would actually do it. Hopefully he holds onto it for awhile and Ring of Honor can set up a good challenger to take it from him. Cody doesn’t need it again and I’m not sure how long he’ll be around the company going forward.
What do you think of Castle as champion? Who will take the title from him? Let us know in the comments below.
