The instant reaction. While WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world, they are not the only major option anymore. AEW has not been around all that long and still have a long way to go to get to the next level, but they have made quite the impact already. This includes bringing in some big names, and that was the case again this weekend.
One of the biggest stories to come out of the AEW Revolution pay per view event was the debut of Christian Cage. AEW had announced that a Hall of Fame worthy name would be signing with the company and Cage wound up being the surprise. This was quite the moment after Cage had appeared in this year’s Royal Rumble, meaning he has not been away from WWE for that long. So what does WWE think of the move?
According to Fightful Select, the backstage reaction to Cage’s jump was mixed. Some felt that if Christian was happy making the move to another promotion then that was a good thing for him. There were also higher ups in WWE who were let down that Christian did not stay with the company, but feel that WWE is to blame for not signing Christian to a deal. Christian not appearing after the Royal Rumble was “not a coincidence” as WWE seemed to know he was not sticking around. There is no word on if WWE would be willing to work with Christian again in the future.
Who did it better? Check out Christian’s return and debut:
Opinion: I’m more in the “good for him” camp as if WWE wanted him to stick around that badly, then they would have found a way to sign him. That is of course assuming that Christian was willing to sign with WWE, as he might have just wanted to go elsewhere. If that is the case then good for him, because maybe he has something he wanted to do and WWE would not allow him to do it.
