Move over New Day. As you might have noticed, Asuka has been NXT Women’s Champion for a very long time, having run through the entire division along with an import in Mickie James. She’s barely had any real competition and has treated almost every opponent as a glorified workout. After all that time, she now has another milestone.

According to WWE.com, Asuka is now the longest reigning NXT Women’s Champion in history, having surpassed Paige’s inaugural
run at 277 days. Asuka defeated Bayley for the title at “Takeover: Dallas” and doesn’t have an opponent for the upcoming “Takeover: San Antonio.” Her reign is less than a month away from surpassing Nikki Bella’s mark as the longest reigning Divas Champion of all time.
Is this really a surprise? Asuka has flattened all of her opponents with James being the only realistic challenger. At the moment there aren’t many major challengers, save for maybe Ember Moon and Nikki Cross. Either way, I could easily see Asuka lasting through the year mark and approaching one of Trish Stratus’ reigns for the longest in modern history.
Have you liked Asuka’s reign so far? Who do you see dethroning her? Let us know in the comments below.
