So that’s why. Last month, WWE went on a spree of trademarks, locking up names of both WCW pay per views and concepts from other promotions. The changes were rather surprising as there was little reason for the trademarking given their lack of doing anything with them for so many years. As it turns out though, there was a simple reason for why WWE went a little crazy in recent weeks.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has been trademarking various shows and old concepts because they’re upset at Major League Wrestling (MLW) trademarking WarGames. MLW used the name and match concept at a show last month, though there is no word on whether or not WWE is planning on using the names they have recently trademarked.
Here’s what MLW did with the idea.
Opinion: Fair enough. WarGames is the kind of big match that so many companies have tried to put on over the years, including WWE. Having a much smaller promotion like MLW take it away isn’t the best result for WWE, so they’re going out of their way to make sure it doesn’t happen again. That’s the kind of thing that makes sense for them, which is the kind of move you would expect from a bigger company. Now if only they would use these new trademarks for something.
