One more. Wrestling is in a completely unique place when it comes to athletics as the results are pre-determined, meaning it is not quite seen on the same level as other sports. That does not mean the wrestlers are not athletes though, which makes it interesting to see other athletes try their hand at wrestling. There have been some interesting results before and we might be seeing another one.
Boxing and wrestling have been tied together over the years and that will always be the case. The idea of two people facing off one on one inside of a roped ring has a very clear connection between the two sports and it makes sense to have the sports cross over. There have been various instances of wrestlers having boxing matches against each other but now we might be seeing the opposite take place.
In a recent interview with the Alternative Sports Show, World Heavyweight Champion boxer Anthony Joshua has said that he wants to come to WWE after his boxing career is over. Joshua said that he wants to do this because Muhammad Ali did the same, referencing Ali’s appearance as the guest referee in the main event of the first WrestleMania. Fellow World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury has appeared in WWE and wrestled a match for the company. There is no word on if WWE would be interested in Joshua or when he may appear.
Opinion: I’m sure WWE would be interested in bringing Joshua in, but at the same time, I’m not sure how many celebrities WWE can bring in. They already have Bad Bunny and possibly Bow Wow coming in, so how frequently are they going to be doing the same thing? It’s a little much, and at some point the impact wears off. It certainly did during the Guest Hosts era and this is starting to look in a similar direction.
