His opinion matters. WWE is not doing so well at the moment. They are doing what they can with what they have given the current circumstances but only so much is possible right now. The fans have not exactly been thrilled with what they are being offered though and the audience numbers seem to reflect that. Star power could help though and there was a boost of it on Monday.
During this week’s Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles made his return to television after being buried alive by the Undertaker at WrestleMania 36 in the Boneyard match. That is quite the situation to return from and it should have been a big deal. It was to an extent, as Styles returned as a surprise entrant in a gauntlet match and earned a spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match. That could have been better, and Styles doesn’t sound incredibly happy.
Styles recently appeared on his Mixer stream and answered some questions about his return. Styles said that WWE “kinda just wasted it” as he felt he could have returned as a different character or in a different mood of some sort. He also mentioned that part of the move might have had to do with timing, as the Money in the Bank ladder match might have needed some more star power.
Styles might be onto something. Check out how he was buried and then how he came back:
Opinion: This is something where your tastes may vary, but I can understand the idea of Styles wanting to change something up a bit. Styles on his own is a great character, but there is only so much that you can do with him. Mixing up the idea isn’t the worst idea, and what better chance would you have to do so? At least it puts Styles, at least possibly, back in the title hunt, as he has been away for a good while now.
