That’s some special praise. Every now and then you see something in wrestling that you know is special. It might be for a good or a bad reason, but there is something about it that gets your attention and you can’t get it out of your head no matter what. That was the case with a segment from AEW earlier this year and now a pretty important publication is offering them some praise.

Back in October, AEW aired Le Dinner Debonair between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Chris Jericho. The showdown involved the two of them going to a steak dinner, which ultimately broke down into a song and dance number, complete with background dancers, top hats and tails. It was quite the production and unlike anything AEW had done before. Now it has earned them some pretty noteworthy attention.

The New York Times has named Le Dinner Debonair as one of the top twenty performances of the year. The unranked list includes mainly television and film performances, along with some less than traditional entries. Friedman has tweeted about the segment, telling a story about listening to music with his recently passed away grandfather before bragging about the success at the end.

Well what else could it be here? Check out Le Dinner Debonair:

Opinion: The more I think about it, the more I can’t help but like the segment. It has nothing to do with wrestling other than the people involved, but the ability to do something like this takes some special skills. The two of them sold the heck out of everything they did and it was certainly memorable. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing may be up for debate, but man alive it was hard to turn away.
