That could stop them. The Coronavirus has changed the way the wrestling world works for the time being and that might be the case for a good while to come. There have still been some promotions that have managed to stay out there, including WWE and AEW, mainly because they have exclusive access to buildings that no one else can run. However, that might not be the case in the future.
As strange as it has been, AEW and WWE have been running their shows in front of empty arenas for the last few weeks. This has created some of the most unique atmospheres that you will ever see in wrestling and somehow, it has worked rather well for the most part. The absence of fans has helped comply with CDC recommendations, but something may be happening that takes the rules a step further.
According to Wrestling Observer Live, there is a chance that the Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida could prevent AEW from running in Daily’s Place in the city by strengthening rules about public distancing. A potential rule change could mean that everyone must stand six feet apart, making a wrestling show virtually impossible. At the moment, there is no word on when this may happen, or any guarantee that it will take place.
The show can take place in front of no fans. Check out how the arena looked:
Opinion: As annoying as it may be, this is the kind of thing that very well could wind up happening. At the end of the day, there is not much that can be done to get around the rulings that the local and/or state governments issue and if that is the kind of thing that happens, AEW (or WWE later on) could be in a lot of trouble. It doesn’t mean that they would be done, but we might not be seeing the company running shows for a good while.
What happens if Daily’s Place is off limits? Could AEW continue in a different venue? Let us know in the comments below.
