That’s a big one. There have been all kinds of stories taking place in AEW in recent months but there have been very few as big as the CM Punk saga. Punk debuted in AEW in August 2021 and went on to become the AEW World Champion. However, Punk was suspended for his role in a backstage altercation with the Elite, while also recovering from surgery for a torn tricep. Now we have a pretty major development.

This week on AEW Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan made a major announcement, revealing that Punk will be involved with Collision. The new series will debut on June 17 at the United Center in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois. This will be Punk’s first official debut since All Out 2021. Punk’s involvement with the show has been rumored for several months but has not been confirmed until now.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you knew was coming but it still felt like a big deal as soon as the announcement was made. At the end of the day, Punk is one of the biggest stars that AEW has ever seen and it would be nice to have him back. The problem at the moment is a mixture of his backstage issues as well as his health, but for now at least, everything seems to be working.
