It’s about something else. There is very little in the wrestling world that is not being affected by the Coronavirus at the moment. With so many negative things going on, it might be nice to talk about something positive for a change. In this case that means looking a bit backwards, but it offers a bit of interesting trivia from something not so very long ago.
Odds are you have heard a little something about AEW. They have rapidly become the second biggest wrestling company in the United States and that puts them in some pretty solid company (elite company you might say). The sky seems to be the limit for them and that is something that could become a big deal in the near future. However, they almost got off on a completely different foot at one point.
AEW President Tony Khan was a guest on AEW’s Unrestricted podcast and talked about a bit of the behind the scenes history of the promotion. Before the name All Elite Wrestling was chosen, the original plan was to call the promotion “World’s Best Wrestling”, which Khan said was similar to All Elite because it was all about having the best wrestling in the world. There is no word on how long the name World’s Best Wrestling was considered before the change was made.
Khan has been around since the beginning. Check out some of his rare appearances:
Opinion: I’m not sure on the original name but it was certainly an idea where you got the idea in a hurry. AEW has done fine with their name and WBW doesn’t have the best ring to it. If nothing else, do you really want something on TNT which is a single letter away from being WCW? Either way, the name they went with is fine and I can always go for some trivia like this.
Which name do you prefer? What would you call a promotion? Let us know in the comments below.
