The plug has been pulled. Every now and then you are going to see a story that just does not work. This could be the case for one reason or another but on occasion, something has to be done to get away from a story at the drop of a hat. Sometimes this is something that can make a situation that much better, as the story just needs to be dropped. That might be the case this time around.
Over the last few months, Erick Rowan has come to the ring carrying a cage. The big mystery had been what was inside the cage, as Rowan would never let anyone see what he had in there. Then last week on Monday Night Raw, it was revealed that Rowan was carrying a huge spider. This was not exactly well received, and now we know what the result will be.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Drew McIntyre crushed the cage with a chair, presumably crushing the spider at the same time. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon himself called for an end to the Rowan cage story. This is why the spider was suddenly unveiled with no fanfare in a backstage segment and was suddenly written off the following week.
It was an abrupt finish. Check out how the story wrapped up in a hurry:
Opinion: This was the only way they could have gone about ending the story. There was no realistic answer that they could have had to pay off everything that they had set up for weeks so pulling the plug and getting out with something ridiculous is better than nothing. It wasn’t good, but it’s over once and for all now, which is better for everyone involved, possibly even including Rowan.
Is this the right move? Could anything else have been a satisfactory payoff? Let us know in the comments below.
